Sock Surgery

Image
This is a photo of a happy Husband...seriously happy...why? Last week? Not so happy....that was me.... not so happy to see this hole in his sock! These are his ONE AND ONLY pair of hand knit socks! These are perfectly good socks.....I knit them back in 2006! Yes I did....I checked my original photo of them...2006! So I couldn't throw them away....it was time for Sock Surgery! First I used tiny 1.5mm needles and picked up a round of stitches, just below where the sock shaping started! Then I cut the toe off! Yes I did!!! I tinked back a row to make sure I had  ALL OF THE STITCHES  and.... Knit a couple of rows and reknit the toe! This is  +Rowan Yarns  Fine Art in the shade "Rowan" This was left over from the "Follow The Arrow 2" shawl by Ysolda Teague...check our my  "Purple Rose of Cairo" blog post! When I got to the the last 7 stitches on each needle ....I knew I had to graft... or Kitchener Stitch thos...

What do you think?  Over the knee socks - I'd better start knitting now to be ready for next winter.... Rowan Fine Art premium hand painted yarn - coming soon! I am SO excited, that I'm taking a class with Kate Atherley at the DKC Frolic this weekend on how to make two socks at the same time!  I think it might cure my one sock syndrome. Do you have trouble knitting that second sock? (While we are waiting, don't forget to enter the contest to win a copy of the "All Seasons Chunky Collection" - how to enter is on the post below.)

Spiraling Coriolis Sock - Ta Da!

Image
I was wondering if I'd be able to come to grips with the unique sock structure of Cat Bordhi's socks......starting the whirlpool toe is quite interesting.... This second one was much easier than the first.....so I must be getting my mind around the wonderness of it all!!!! Here they are - done - fini - and Caelee approves.

Guided Tour

Image
I'm a member of the guilded tour through the "New Pathways" sock club at my local yarn store. Our intrepid guide gave an overview on her blog of how it all works. While I am an excellent traveller, and usually stick to the prescribed itinerary.....I did wander away for a while to do some fair isle swatching....so I missed the second sock. But I'm back on track with the third sock, the Spiraling Coriolis.....if I can get past the cast on for the Whirlpool Toe that is!! Happy Knitting!

Bartholomew's Tantalizing Socks

Image
Knit in Opal hand-dyed yarn, these socks were a fun knit -- unusual (to me) arch and heel. I wish now that I'd knit one size smaller, so I bought another skein of yarn to do just that! Daisy wondes when it's going to be Spring.....she's still sleeping on the heat registers. Happy Knitting!

It's all about socks

Image
I'm stalled on Duxbury Point -- and I needed some relatively mindless knitting. When I was down in Santa Fe, I indulged in a spot of Opal shopping.....Opal sock yarn that is..... So guess what I'm knitting.....Daisy is always happy to help model.....but the socks are actually for the Hubby -- this is a major milestone for me to knit something for him for Christmas - poor guy! I've been distracted from my knitting lately -- but I've finally figured out that it's my knitting that I need to distract me from other goings on.....so you'll be seeing more knitting soon. Happy Knitting
