Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine Number 70 - Platinum Edition!

At 2 magazines a year, that’s 35 years of gorgeous designs, styling and photos!

Magazine 70 introduces extended sizing for their designs. Rowan has added one smaller, and 3 larger sizes to their standard size range…..so now all Rowan designs will be available to fit bust measurements 28-30 thru 60-62”.

In line with the expanded size range, two models are used in Magazine 70 to show the garments on different body types. One model is a 32” and the other is 43” and in many instances, they are shown wearing the same design, the same size. The photo shoot sample is not always the smallest size in this scenario….so it gives us knitters more things to think about when we are reviewing the collection.

Sizing is a tricky thing …. When hand knitting, you can’t just slip on the various sides of a garment to decide which one suits your better….so you have to use your imagination and past experience to choose the right size of a particular garment. You don’t need to go with the ease as recommended in the pattern….I often don’t.

Rowan is now owned by DMC, the French floss company, and to celebrate their Platinum edition, the first story in the magazine is “ Platinum “ and most of the designs incorporate DMC Diamant thread, which is held along with the yarn to give the fabric a bit of metallic depth. Don’t worry, if a bit of subtle bling isn’t your thing, you can just leave that thread out - it doesn’t change gauge or anything.

The second story is “ Maison “ a selection of quirky homeware by Martin Storey. Anyone want a huge lip cushion? What about eyelashes? I love these quirky designs.

And last is “ Vivid “ a collection of accessories by Georgia Farrell, all in our favourite Kidsilk Haze!

This collection was produced during the time of Covid….and as such was shot in a studio. The back cover of the magazine lists everyone involved, and there are some special thanks there for this 70th Edition.

Thanks to a long list of hand knitters who produced the garments…..see your magazine for all the names.

Thank you to the Rowan team for adapting and working in incredibly difficult circumstances to produce our wondering Autumn Winter collection.

And,

An extra special thank you to the Quail Studios team for all the support and amazing photography.

And I’d like to thank you for reading my blog, and watching my videos!!!

Happy Knitting!

Anne

  1. Thanks for the great review. I am really enjoying No. 70. As soon as it arrived I cast on the Textured Parallelograms Wrap by Georgia Farrell - It is the perfect retirement gift for a dear knitting friend of mine. However, I am using a strand of KSH and a strand of laceweight. I love the way it is turning out.
