Rowan Magazine 66 - new yarns!
The leaves are starting to change, the garden is hunkering down, you know the season is changing...
For us knitters that means...
Time to pick a new knitting project!
I’ve had a good look at the designs in Rowan Magazine 66.....it came with a bit of a surprise!
Now don’t get excited... the Rowan Magazine itself stayed the same!
The magazine features favourite Rowan Yarns knit up in designs from your favourite Rowan designers (Kaffe, Brandon, Martin, Annika, Georgia, Arne & Carlos).
You’ll find lots of Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze here....classic designs photographed in beautiful Cambridge. Just look at the cover....the guy is wearing a classic crew neck pullover....it’s knit using Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze held together! The gal is wearing a scarf and a Chanel style jacket....both done is a slip stitch pattern, also in Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze.
25 designs are presented in the classic Rowan magazine format.
So, what’s the difference you say?
What’s new is the second, separate, complementary publication, “Focus".
In Focus, Rowan’s Lisa Richardson has created a collection of 15 beautiful garments, presented in a neutral palette...in two new Rowan core yarns!
The first is "Cashmere Haze" which is (as the name suggests) a luxurious fine lace weight yarn, 40% Baby Alpaca, 30% Cashmere and 30% Silk.
I haven't knit with Cashmere Haze yet...but it's so soft and luscious....it's rather gorgeous....you knew it would be right?
Then there is another new yarn this season from Rowan.....Island Blend.
Knitting with Island Blend is a joy.....I LOVE IT. (So much so that I'm knitting my next sweater using Island Blend and Kidsilk Haze held together - don't you just love this melding of yarns to create luxurious knit fabric?)
I hope you enjoy my review of each of the designs in the new Rowan Magazine combo format....
Magazine 66, and it's complement publication...Focus!
You might just find YOUR next sweater project waiting for you!
Happy Knitting,
Anne x
PS: I'd love to hear what YOUR favourite design is!

Then there is another new yarn this season from Rowan.....Island Blend.
A sample skein of Island Blend arrived in my mail box...in the Lemon shade. When you pick it up, you immediately feel how luxuriously soft it is. Island Blend is 70% Falkland Island Merino, 15% Baby Alpaca and 15% Silk! It has a subtle sheen.....I’d say it glows! I have to say it was love at first sight!
I found a skein of Kidsilk Haze that matched, perfect for a few swatches to get to know this new yarn.

Here it is in the skein, a hand wound ball....shown with a skein of the classic Kidsilk Haze!

However, sometimes we tend to forget to disconnect the line from the cable, or to let go of the hand. All of this can lead to potential injury to the hand dropping down from fatigue, while working on the bamboo knitting needles.
