Favourite Blog Feature

Image
Introducing a new kind of posting here on Shades of Shetland.  Every once in a while I'd like to feature a blog that I regularly read.  They don't all have to be about knitting, but this one features a lot of the things that inspire me - knitting, colour, great photography, sheep and lambs, and today some pretty spectacular photos of "The Farmer" hubby LOL!  Thanks for sharing with us Kristin! I've been reading Kristin Nicholas' blog for a while - todays entry is truly wonderful - enjoy!

We are trying to teach Lackie to stay in the back seat (like Daisy who is so good at this) - but it's hard to reprimand him when he looks this cute!

Fun in the snow!

We've lived here for over 20 tears,,,,and have always had the services of a friendly farmer neighbour to help us out with snow blowing our driveway.... Alan retired.....our friendly farmer retired.....from snow blowing that is.  The FF explained that with his own father "retiring" from farm business, the onus is on him.....and 100+ cows to milk twice a day, along with everything else that needs to be done, well, frankly, I couldn't blame him for not wanting to come out and do all of our driveways! So a decision had to be made.....find another provider of snow removal services or...... ...do it yourself! This blower looked huge when we bought it.....but faced with a long driveway full of snow, we wondered if we'd chosen the right machine.  Never fear - DH did a fabulous job with his new toy, er...machine! Of course I was all warm and cosy taking these photos from inside!

Beam me up!

Pretty soon we'll be able to say "Beam me up" - I'm sure of it. Yesterday I received my Apple TV thingmajig.....a little black box that hooks into your TV.  It talks to our wifi....so I can access Netflix on it. It also can talk to the big iMac downstairs.......once I allowed for Home Share......so now we can watch our photos streaming from the iMac - on our big TV in the livingroom.  We can also access the internet (albeit a bit of a pain to type in the address) and play music that is in our itunes library. So now we have the iMac, an iPod that talks to the iMac, and an Apple TV that talks to the iMac too.... can an iPad be far behind? DH keeps telling me to get one, but I'm not ready yet......some day........ Do you love all of this new technology?  or not....... Tell me in a comment - I'd love to hear what you think.

Renée's "Swatch"

Ever since I first set eyes on "The Celtic Collection", I knew I wanted to knit Lindisfarne.  That was a long time ago and I was scared to death of fair isle knitting.  Now, a few years later, I'd rather knit fair isle than anything else.  Heck, I'd rather knit fair isle than eat or sleep, it seems. A couple of years ago Anne and I were casually chatting about Lindisfarne.  She told me that the colours were less like those on the cover of the book and more like those in the teensy picture on page 33.  She said this almost apologetically but I was excited.  Those are more my colours than the shades on the cover. Before long, I was bringing home a kit for Lindsifarne, complete with Anne's conversions from the original shades to Spindrift.  I knew I would eventually knit it but I wasn't sure when.  So, when Anne proposed a knitalong - I was IN! We decided we would swatch on New Year's Day and start knitting on January 2nd.  I did the math to figure out what g

There is an obvious error in the shades in the top half - the golds - I think I forgot to change up shades a couple of times LOL - but the bottom half shows the true graduation of shades and I am happy happy happy about this colourway. The Lindisfarne sweater pattern is only one size- so I have to take my gauge and rework it - with a 66 stitch pattern repeat - this is going to be fun LOL! .....off to find my calculator!

New Project

Thank you for your comments on Anastasiya - it was a great project - so totally out of my normal style that I loved it - and I LOVE wearing it! So Pru was asking what my next project will be......well, I am knitting Rambler in Cocoon from Rowan 48 for my next Rowan group project.....I'm doing the sleeves first to get the boring bits over - and intend to knit the body in the round up until the underarms - then back and forth.  I'm doing it in the colourway as show in Rowan 48. Also, in 2011 I intend to do a couple of "I've always wanted to knit...." projects.  The first is......drum roll here...... LINDISFARNE from Celtic Collection and I'm doing it as a KAL with my friend  Renée (aka Froggie Meanie on Ravelry) and  Renée will be popping in to Shades of Shetland occasionally to post updates on her progress.....and we will be meeting regularly to compare notes....so there will be side by side photos in the future too! So here's the set up -- back in the da
