Sunday Smorgasbord...

Image
A selection of photos from the weekend activities here at Shades of Shetland.... We had a lovely Sunday Brunch - English muffins with egg, cheese and bacon - and just a dash of Worcestershire sauce! Daisy enjoyed the first real snow of the year! Sunday is grooming day for the dogs - that includes toe nails -- always a struggle  but they forgive me. Once the chores were done, I sat down to do some knitting -- Anastasiya is almost complete.  The short row shoulders look great.  I really like to do a 3-needle bind off, so that was the plan.  Two attempts later and I was seriously questioning my sanity -- how could 48 stitches on each needle not bind off equally?  This is one of those annoying mysteries of knitting......so in desperation, I got out my stitch marker hooks, counted 12 stitches on each needle and joined the needles together at that point. Such a simple solution - it only takes a moment and kept me on track.... I think it was worth it!

More Yarn!

Well, the LAST thing I need around here is more yarn.....but......I've been organizing and that always means trouble LOL! While "organizing" I discovered that I did NOT have all of the shades of Jamieson's Shetland Spindrift -- I guess I closed up shop before the last batch of new shades arrived.....and then I sold off ALL of my stock of certain shades, so at least, I had to have ONE ball of each shade.... so I got these! I'll show you how I've organized all of my Spindrift in another post......it will take me a couple of days to sort this lot out!

November 19 - Finally!

Yes, today was THE DAY! Originally I wanted to go to the midnight showing of Harry Potter - The Deathly Hallows Part 1........but to be honest, sanity ruled....and we went to the noon showing today.  Turns out that the midnight shows were crazy - people started lining up for seats at 9:00 pm - well, no way DH would have done that - he's not the biggest HP fan around LOL - he cringes every time he hears HP music LOL!!! So, going at noon today was fabulous - the theatre was only half full -- we could sit where we wanted - I have nothing against kids but being a school day is was relatively kid free -- there were a few that had obviously skipped school (with parental approval of course) to go to the show........so it was great. I as a 5 Star Harry Potter fan LOVED the movie - it was dark and dangerous and I loved it.  Rupert Grint (Ron) was exceptional and really grown up LOL!!  I think of the 3 stars, he has been overlooked because he frankly makes it look so easy - I would expect th

Time flies....

When you are having fun - as the saying goes. Another week at the home of Shades of Shetland....the weather has been lovely (for November) and we've found a "new" trail to walk - at our usual park - but going North rather than our usual going South trail.  It's longer - takes about an hour - which is what we need now that we've gotten used to walking more.  Lackie and Daisy love the longer walks too! So, not much knitting progress this week -- but I did work out the shoulder shaping for the back of Anastasiya - and I just finished - used the Japanese short row method and it looks quite nice. These are my shoulder shaping guidelines....I'd better not lose this so that I can make the front shoulders match. I love the way the plaid motif goes up the shoulder -- this should look good when I do a 3 needle bind off joining the shoulders together. So now I just have to look at the front V neck shaping -- I think I want mine to be a bit deeper V than called for in th

Sunday fun...

Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest right? Well, this morning I was given my shopping list, and sent off to pick up a few things at the grocery store.  I usually avoid going grocery shopping on a Sunday....but when you are given a list by the Hubby, and he tells you that he's been talking to his Mom, and he wants to make Christmas fruit cake this year.....HE wants to make it, not we should make it, or you should make it, HE wants to make it. What's a person to do when someone insists that they are up for the challenge....all that cutting up of fruit, that back breaking work....and my part of the job is to shop for the ingredients, and ice one of the cakes closer to Christmas.  I love icing cakes, so sure, I'm up for that part too. So DH is upstairs right now - measuring and cutting, adding and mixing......oh yes, I do also have to line the two pans with parchment paper - I can do that part too..... But the rest of the time I'm going to try to get back to this.... I k

Lackie the lad...

Lackie has always liked sleeping in the bay window.  I suppose he saw Caelee doing it and thought "why not?".  Now that Caelee has gone on to her next life, Lackie keeps her spot warm.

Speaking of Entertainment

It's only 17 sleeps until.... I am so excited!

An entertainment filled weekend!

On Friday night, we went to the Milton Players presentation of...... "A Party to Murder" - picture a halloween weekend party at a cottage on an island, 6 individuals who think they are there for an exciting weekend, but when the bodies start to mount up, well, it's not that exciting any more - and the boat doesn't come until tomorrow! This play was well done and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Then on Saturday, we decided to have a movie night, as I'd seen that "The Girl Who Played With Fire" had just been released on DVD......but while at the video store, I found this....... "North Face" was based on a true story - 1936 - two Austrian climbers attempt to climb the North Face of the Eiger in the Swiss Alps - there is a German team......right behind them.  This is a German film - with English sub-titles.  One scene when you are looking down from an observation platform - was so realistic that my stomach lurched.  Fabulous film!
