What looks like suede, feels like velvet, and comes in 14 gorgeous soft shades?

It's Rowan's All Seasons Chunky!

All Seasons Chunky is a new yarn for Spring/Summer 2013, and I was happy to see a ball of it along  with the "All Seasons Chunky Collection" in my Rowan Ambassador sample box.  (For details and available shades of this yarn, click here.)

I decided that the only way to seriously test this out was to SWATCH (yes, the S word!) for one of the lovely designs in the book...but which one? The designs were photographed on the Greek island Santorini, so it's appropriate that the names of the designs are all Greek Gods!

To have a look at all 12 of the designs in the All Seasons Chunky Collection, you can either...

Go to the KnitRowan web site and see all of the designs in this booklet

OR if you are like me and totally addicted to Pinterest,

This design is called Aphrodite (Goddess of love and beauty!)
I was intrigued as the front and sleeves are stocking stitch,
and the back is an open textured stitch - and look at that deep V back!

I used Shade 601 - Pebble
Here are my swatches - washed and dried - gently blocked and then scanned.

That back pattern was a bit tricky for me.  (Remember, my forte is colour work.) With swatching, I figured out it was a series of 3 knits, followed by the 3 stitch twisty bit - and on the next right side row the twisty bit goes over the 3 knit stitches - to offset the pattern.  See, it wasn't hard at all!

I liked the feel of this yarn, it's soft and dry hand and the way it makes bold stitches and strong textured patterns. After blocking, it is so lovely and soft...I like it even more!

These designs will work up quickly in this chunky yarn - so if you want a quick, ultra stylish knit to wear this summer, check out Rowan's new "All Seasons Chunky".

Happy Swatching everyone!

  4. I love Rowan yarns and patterns and always have difficulty choosing what to knit next. I'd probably start with Hebe, then move onto Harmonia with its beautiful lace patterning!

  19. Hmm , I think Aphrodite, because that deep back is so unusual. I quite like daring cuts when knitted - pairing trad techniques with modern looks!

    1. IF I had time, Aphrodite is the one I'd pick too.....so IF I get the 3 projects I have on the go finished before Magazine 54 comes out....well, I'll knit Aphrodite....I found swatching for it rather nice. Good luck in the draw!
